Most of my paintings are abstract landscapes. I have always loved the interesting patterns occurring naturally in landscapes. My abstractions develop from a collage of different landscapes in my mind. In composing, I like to play one interesting section against another. This makes the abstract patterns work for the painting as a whole instead of being a copy of nature.
I use what I consider bold and daring colors. I turned to watercolors and acrylics after a long period of painting realistic, impressionistic, and abstract landscapes and subjects in oils. Perhaps my previous work in oils has influenced my watercolor palette and my preference for strong colors and contrast.
A critic wrote of my featured work in a show: "She specializes in aerial views of landscapes in an abstract style. Her best work makes use of dense black contrasted with bright orange or yellow. . . . She knows how dawn, dusk and distance paint magical designs and she wants us to see them also."
Besides watercolors and oils I have also made woodcuts, lithographs, engravings, and some sculptures.
